It’s that special time of year again, fall, holidays and family gatherings. As a family of a first responder and having a child that switches houses, we do our best to celebrate when you can, as you can. That has and always will be our family motto! We don’t stress the dates, so what if Dad is at the fire station or the kiddo isn’t with us on our exact birthday, what does matter is making the most of the family time when we are together. This year, thanksgiving for us will be Wednesday not Thursday, no switching and just enjoying the day, we have to take into consideration that not only does the child switch when it comes to holidays, but we all do. Spouses, parents, grandparents, all of us; who are trying hard to split our holiday time with all those that matter to make sure that no one is left out or forgotten.
It is this time of year that I feel I understand most when my dear stepdaughter switches houses, she must sometimes feel exhausted, by the end of the holiday season I know I sure am. However, we build some GREAT memories along the way and that is truly what matters. I want her to have the best of both worlds, a great experience at both of her homes, because that is the ultimate goal, her true happiness.
Being a fire wife and stepmom has taught me so much, sometimes I am solo and sometimes I am surrounded by a lot of people, I have come to enjoy the quiet time and embrace it and not attempt to miss them so much, but to find things to occupy my time. Writing my children’s series and photography has helped along the way.
I love this time of year and I hope everyone makes the best of the time they have. Life passes too quickly to not embrace and cherish every moment that you have.
Happy Holidays !
